Aintree Grand National Runners Guide 2014
There are 40 Grand National runners that go to post every year and we shall have the 2014 list of Grand National entrants as soon as the final 40 are clarified. For many the National offers an opportunity to have a bet on the ante post betting markets and those that do so will be getting involved quite early to ensure they get the very best Grand National price.
Pre Declaration Stage & Ante Post Betting
Every trainer has one major dream and that is to have a Grand National winner and as such every horse that has any chance of taking part in this great race is entered in the Grand National. Once they are entered they have to wait until they see if they can make it into the final 40 and this is dependent on the horses rating and at the final declarations as only the best horses make the line up.
There are four main declaration stages all taking place in the final month leading up to the race where the initial entries are narrowed down until the final 40 get the all clear.
Grand National Weights
Another major milestone in the build up to the Grand National is the day the Weights are announced as then the real National betting action really kicks into gear as it is only then do you the punter get an idea of how well your fancy is treated in the weights which is all important to the backing a Grand National winner.
Non Runner No Bet Declaration Stage
At this point we are generally at the 5 day declaration stage and the bookmakers generally go Non Runner No Bet to encourage their customers to get on early with this concession as most ante post backers hate to have an ante post bet and then not have their horse lining up to take part.
The Final 40 Runners and Reserves
48 hours before the race the final 40 are announced and the 4 reserves in case of any last minute mishaps with the final 40. This is when the all the race cards are printed and the real Grand National betting action gets underway as for the next 2 days there is nothing more than a huge betting frenzy on this the greatest horse race in the world.
Grand National Sweepstake Kit
One of the most popular forms of involvement in the Grand National is when the final 40 are announced all the offices and clubs up and down the country can get their Sweepstakes into gear. A Grand National Sweepstakes is simply where everyone who wants to participate puts in an agreed amount of money and then gets to pick from a hat a horse and if this horse wins they will pick up the winnings. Usually a Sweepstake pays out on the first four home.
