The Scottish National History

Scottish National BettingThe Scottish Grand National has been on the go since the 1880's and over this time there has been two occasions that will be remembered above all others the first was when Red Rum the best Grand National horse ever won and he took the Aintree Grand National in 1974 and then came up to Ayr a few weeks later and did the double.

A few years back in 2005 Ruby Walsh the jockey who will go down as a legend in the sport came to Ayr trying to win all four Grand Nationals in the same season having win the Welsh, English and Irish National and was riding Cornish Rebel to do the Grand Slam a feat that probably if achieved would never be repeated and could be put on a par with a golfer trying to win the four majors in the season, Walsh was with in a short head of doing so and was just beaten by Joes Edge on the line.

Scottish National Winners

It is only fitting that in the long tradition and history of the Scottish Grand National that Red Rum came to Ayr after winning his second of three Aintree Grand National races and conquered the Scottish equivalent in 1974 for trainer Ginger McCain and this victory in itself gives this National a sort of seal of approval. To bring a horse to Ayr only a few weeks after the Aintree race and win is a fantastic feat and one which will be tough to achieve any time soon.
